Queen’s College was founded by royal charter on November 10, 1766. Its third site was established with the erection of this building, designed by John McComb in 1808-9. An act of the legislature of New Jersey on November 30, 1825, changed the name to Rutgers College. This building, a survivor from the earlier period, retained the name of Queen’s. Old Queens has been designated a National Historic Landmark, and the site possesses national significance in commemorating the history of the United States of America.
