In 1989, during North Dakota's centennial year, this memorial was dedicated to all North Dakotans who had served in the armed forces since statehood, and the names listed on it are those of the men and women who gave their lives in wartime service for their country. Sheltered by a dome and covered by a cube as symbols of purity, unity, and stability, it uses supporting columns to define the inside and outside while linking it to the surrounding wooded land in all directions. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the sun shines on a bronze globe to honor Veterans Day, with the wish that they may rest wherever they lie, in serene glory.
