Piscataway Park in southern Maryland, near Accokeek and across the Potomac from Mount Vernon, preserves shoreline, woods, meadows, wetlands, and historic views. Named for Piscataway Creek and the Piscataway people, it includes the area of Moyaone, a Piscataway village, as well as the National Colonial Farm, Marshall Hall, and the Accokeek Creek Site. Its preservation grew from Henry and Alice Ferguson’s land purchases beginning in 1928 and later donations to the National Park Service in the 1960s, intended both to conserve the landscape and protect Mount Vernon’s viewshed. The park also contains sites tied to a shad hatchery, Marshall Hall’s rise and decline, public trails, wildlife, and historic farm structures.
