Lamoine State Park is a 55-acre public recreation area on Frenchman Bay in Lamoine, Maine, with views of Mount Desert Island, Eastern Bay, and the town’s working waterfront. The shoreline once served a military purpose as a U.S. Navy coaling station, opened in 1902 but rendered obsolete by 1912 as naval technology changed. Maine acquired the property in 1949 and developed it into a state park during the 1950s. Managed today by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, it combines scenic coastal outlooks with recreation including camping, picnicking, fishing, kayaking, a boat launch, and cross-country skiing.
