Ford-Wyoming Drive-In in Dearborn, Michigan, opened in 1950 during the postwar rise of automobile-centered moviegoing and has remained a rare urban survivor of that tradition. Built by Clark Enterprises, it began with room for 750 cars and later grew dramatically after Wayne Amusements bought it in 1981. At its peak, the site had nine screens and space for more than 3,000 cars, earning recognition as the world’s largest drive-in theater. A 2006 land sale reduced it to five screens and about 2,500-car capacity, but it continued operating and remained one of only nine drive-ins in Michigan and the only one in Metro Detroit.
