Built in May 1864 by G.B. Walker at a cost of $10975, this penitentiary was jointly used by Idaho Territory and Boise Co. Its original site was on Buena Vista Bar west of the city. The building was moved in 1930 to make way for gold mining, then moved twice more before being placed on its present site in 1953 by Sons and Daughters of Idaho Pioneers.
