Blue Knob, a three thousand one hundred forty-six-foot mountain in Pennsylvania and the highest point in Bedford County, stands as the northernmost peak above three thousand feet in the Allegheny Mountains. Its distinct massif, broad summit, and resistant sandstone cap helped preserve its height, while its elevation brings unusually severe weather, including the state snowfall record set here in eighteen ninety through ninety-one. Long believed to be Pennsylvania’s highest mountain until a nineteen twenty-one survey identified Mount Davis as higher, Blue Knob later became the site of an Air Force station and ski area. Today it anchors extensive public lands valued for recreation, wildlife habitat, and sweeping mountain views.
