Henry Clay Smith, known as "Uncle Hank," was born in Germany on August 15, 1836, and died on May 20, 1912, and Elizabeth Boyle Smith, known as "Aunt Hank," was born on July 12, 1848, and died on June 5, 1925. They were pioneers of the Plains and builders of the Rock House in 1877, a monument to frontier hospitality. They are buried above the Cap Rock at Old Emma.
