Socrates Mountain is a 3,386-foot summit in Pendleton County, West Virginia, and ranks as the state’s 219th highest peak. Its most distinctive feature is its unusual name for the region, taken from Socrates, the ancient Greek philosopher. Although little more is recorded here, the mountain remains one of the many individually named summits that shape the rugged Appalachian geography of this part of West Virginia.
