Clark Planetarium is a downtown Salt Lake City planetarium and science museum at The Gateway that opened in April 2003, succeeding the Hansen Planetarium, which had operated from 1965 to 2002. Established through a Clark Foundation grant in cooperation with Salt Lake County, it combines theater presentations with hands-on science exhibits. Its facilities include the Hansen Dome Theater, a 55-foot perforated aluminum dome, an IMAX-certified big screen theater, and 10,000 square feet of free exhibits such as Science on a Sphere and George Rhoads's Newton's Daydream. Renovated and expanded in 2015–2016 and 2023–2024, it remains a leading local venue for astronomy and space science.
