Red House Hill is a mountain in central New York, south-southwest of Springfield Center and west of Hutter Point and Six Mile Point on Otsego Lake, with Rum Hill nearby and Mohican Brook along its southern edge. Beyond its physical setting, it is linked to James Fenimore Cooper’s The Deerslayer as the mountain Deerslayer climbs after coming inland near Six Mile Point while fleeing the Hurons. On its summit he hides beneath a log, watches his pursuers descend into Mohican Canyon, and then runs back toward the lake before being captured.
