Mickey Charles Mantle was remembered as “a Great teammate” and as a member of the CHS class of ’49. The work associated with him was created by Dr. Nick A Calcagno, an artist whose career brought numerous awards and professional achievements. His artwork was exhibited at the Kansas City Art Institute, Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Legacy Sports Gallery in Arlington, Texas, and the Fenster Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma, among others. Examples of his talent included an 8-foot sculpture of 1969 Heisman Trophy winner Steve Owens on the Oklahoma University campus and the Norseman sculpture on the NEO A&M campus in Miami, Oklahoma. During 39 years in education, including 28 in the humanities and art department at NEO A&M College, Dr. Calcagno touched thousands of lives and was regarded as a master educator whose loss left a void in the community.
