Nature
Black Mountain is a summit in Catron County, New Mexico, in the Black Range on the northern boundary of the Gila Wilderness within the Gila National Forest. It stands in the Gila River watershed, with its eastern and northern slopes draining toward the East Fork and its western and southern sides descending to the Middle Fork. The mountain is also tied to the Black Mountain Lookout Cabin, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In February 2014, the Forest Service reported the summit lookout tower was closed, while the area had been severely affected by the 2011 Miller Fire.
