The Curt Barwick House was erected in Emanuel County near Norristown about 1845 by Curtis M. Barwick (1823-1902). The basic structure was moved to the Gillis Spring Community of Treutlen County about 1960 by Christine Gillis Edenfield, granddaughter of the original builder. In June 1979 Christine Sumner Stewart, a direct descendent of the original owner, and her mother, Gladys Hudson Sumner, donated the structure to the City of Soperton for use as a Welcome Center in memory of J. Hafer Sumner. The multitude of descendents of Curtis M. Barwick have contributed immeasurably to the rich heritage of the Million Pines Community.
