The Little Red Schoolhouse was built in the late 1880s in Raymond Township, southwest of Sauk Centre, near County Road 18 and 370th Street in an area also known as Squabble Hollow. It stood on a corner of land then owned by Tony (Anton) Jenc and was built by the Jenc District, first District #92 and later #1990. The building remained in use until 1969, when District #92 was consolidated with #743 and local residents chose to close the school and donate it to the City of Sauk Centre. In 1972 it was moved into Sauk Centre and placed at the southwest corner of Highway 71 and Interstate 94. On May 10, 2021, it was moved again to its current location. Families with children enrolled there included the Barchengers, Rouslangs, Claudes, Jencs, Bieringers, Wieners, Kinsellas, Rezenchecks, Cussecks, Martas, Pfeiffers, Morgans, and Stiers. For several years, students from a nearby district also attended when their own enrollment was low. A typical school day began with the teacher ringing a handbell and calling students in from the playground. The schedule started at 9:00 with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by reading and penmanship, arithmetic, lunch, science, history, geography, spelling, writing, current events, and art on Friday, with recesses in the morning and afternoon and dismissal at 4:00. Because the school usually served students in all eight grades, each class had limited time, and students often came to the front to recite and were required to raise their hands before reciting.
