Lostwood Wilderness is a federally protected wilderness area in North Dakota within the Lostwood National Wildlife Refuge, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Established by Congress in 1975, it encompasses 5,577 acres of lakes and mixed-grass prairie in a region regarded as one of North America’s premier duck and waterfowl breeding areas. Under the 1964 Wilderness Act, it remains wild and undeveloped, with no roads or buildings and no logging or mining. Motorized and mechanized travel, including bicycles, is prohibited, while low-impact uses such as camping and fishing are generally allowed with permits.
