On this campus, pioneering scientists made discoveries and advances essential to many areas of life science research, forensics, and patient care, including the discovery and development of the Nobel Prize-winning polymerase chain reaction technology (PCR) from 1983 to 1991, the first sequencing of the HIV genome in 1984, the first blood test for Hepatitis B virus in 1988, the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus in 1989, and many more achievements.
