Built in 1903 on East Bay Front and moved in 1905 to its present site, the Old Palacios Hotel was enlarged and became a resort for investors from the North who were buying orchards and coastal land. It had a famed dining room and a permanent orchestra, and it has withstood many hurricanes, including Carla in 1961.
