Mobile Botanical Gardens, founded in 1974 in the Spring Hill area of Mobile, Alabama, spans 100 acres on Museum Drive and blends formal gardens with preserved natural habitat. Its themed sections include the Rhododendron Garden, Camellia Wintergarden, Fern Glade, Fragrance and Texture Garden, Japanese Maple Garden, herb garden, and a 40-acre Longleaf Pine habitat. The rhododendron collection, developed within an older azalea garden, is regarded as the Gulf Coast’s most comprehensive. The preserved longleaf pine habitat represents a once-dominant Southern ecosystem and supports notable plant diversity. Operating as a nonprofit, the gardens remain a year-round public center for horticulture and habitat preservation.
