Anne and Christopher Birckhead are believed to have the oldest dated tombstones in Maryland. Anne's epitaph says that although these stones record her bones, her fame is more lasting than stone, and her virtues will live on after earthly monuments are gone. It says that anyone reading of such a wife and dear mother cannot help but weep, and that she has finished her race, been laid to rest, and sings among the blessed.
