After the Market Street fire of 1908 leveled the majority of the wooden buildings on the street, new brick storehouses were constructed rapidly, and the city council of Clinton required all buildings in the fire district to be made of brick or stone. Wiley Ring, a prolific developer of residential and business properties in Clinton at the turn of the century, completed this structure in 1908 and sold it to Ardle Davis. Its earliest known businesses were a grocery store and barber shop. It later housed one of the locations of the beloved Twins Café, operated for 37 years by sisters Hassie England Seivers and Lassie England Disney, who became celebrities through appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Good Morning America. At age 89, Hassie and Lassie closed the café in 1999 on the 100th anniversary of the city of Clinton’s incorporation.
