Also known as Norwood's Plantation, the Battle of Yellow Bayou was fought on May 18, 1864, as the last battle of Banks' Red River Campaign. General Richard Taylor's Confederate army failed to prevent the Union army from crossing the Atchafalaya River at Simmesport.
