John Cadwalader commanded Pennsylvania troops and served at Princeton, Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth. Angered by the cabal against Washington, he wounded General Conway in a duel. He lived nearby, served in the General Assembly of Maryland from Kent County, was buried in Shrewsbury Churchyard, and had an epitaph written by Thomas Paine.
