Fort Ebey State Park occupies the former site of Fort Ebey on Whidbey Island’s west side above the Strait of Juan de Fuca, within Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve. Built in 1942 on Partridge Point as a World War II coastal defense near the mouth of Puget Sound, the fort was named for Isaac Neff Ebey and included a battery of two 6-inch guns that were later scrapped. Washington began acquiring the land in 1965, expanded the property through later additions, and opened the park in 1981. Today it combines military history with recreation, offering shoreline, Lake Pondilla, trails, camping, fishing, beachcombing, picnicking, and paragliding.
