A two-story wooden house and skating location on this site was acquired by Leonard W. Noyes in 1829 before the Masonic Building Association purchased it in 1889. Rising Sun Lodge #39 had been instituted on June 13, 1822, in Dunstable, with meetings originally held at the residence of John Hunt. After several moves, a new building was financed through the sale of Masonic Building Association stock at a cost of $68,193. Designed by Perkins and Bancroft in Queen Anne and Romanesque style, the Masonic Temple measured 103 by 80 feet and stood 68.5 feet tall, built of sandstone, brick, and a copper tower. It contained four floors with five stores, offices including Nashua Trust, and the Lodge with parlors and a banquet hall. Dedicated on January 21, 1891, in what was called "The Social Event of the Season," the ceremony began as a farewell to the previous home at Nutt's Block before the move to the Temple, and 1,000 guests attended the banquet. Although the building has mostly remained the same, Nashua Trust added a granite facing to the first floor in the 1950s, later discovered to have solidly encased the cornerstone time capsule and made it inaccessible. An elevator was added in 1975, and Rising Sun Lodge marked its 150th year in 1972.
