James Reese, born in 1942, came to Spartanburg County in 1966 to be a school music teacher and band director. He was soon recruited to play trombone with major performers including the Temptations, Diana Ross, the Supremes, Stevie Wander, the Jackson Five, Hamilton Bohannon, and James Brown. As a musician, educator, bandleader, author, pastor, composer, arranger, and producer, he has touched countless lives in the U.S. and abroad. Fayssoux Dunbar Starling McLean, born in 1940 and a Spartanburg native, is known for her harmony vocals on Emmylou Harris albums in a collaboration that continues today. After returning to Spartanburg in 1993, she began singing with guitarist Brandon Turner and musician and journalist Peter Cooper. When Cooper moved to Nashville, he produced her Americana albums Early and I Can't Wait.
