Hartsville College began in 1850 as Hartsville Academy, a coeducational United Brethren school founded by public act of the Indiana General Assembly. Around 1865, the campus moved four blocks south, and it was destroyed by fire in January 1898. Many of its graduates became distinguished citizens in their communities throughout the state and nation.
