Reverand Father Andrew Wilczek, a quiet man of God born in Poland, first came to Weirton by streetcar from Wheeling and often ministered in New Cumberland as well as among the Polish people of the surrounding area. On land given by the steel mill, less than a block from its open hearth, he built the church, school, convent, and rectory. For more than 43 years he served his people throughout the entire area. He died before Sacred Heart of Mary moved to Weirton Heights, and though he is buried with his family in another section of this graveyard, he is honored here with his fellow priests.
