In areas with few cheese factories or creameries, farmers depended on the railroad to deliver milk. Platforms the height of the car deck were built next to the tracks, and in the evening local farmers brought their milk or cream there. During the night the train stopped to load the milk or cream, making for a very slow trip, so a slow train for whatever reason came to be known as a "Milk Train." In Cuba City, the creamery stood on the tracks just west of the train depot.
