Camp Sigel was the camping ground of the 21st Michigan Infantry. The regiment departed from here for the South during the Civil War. On September 12, 1912, citizens of Ionia and surviving members of the regiment honored the 21st Michigan Infantry for its gallant service in the Civil War on the 50th anniversary of its departure.
