The Original Richmond Cotton Mill, the first textile manufacturing plant in Scotland County, was built by Col. Charles Malloy in 1867. It was powered by water wheels, and its machinery was said to have come from a sunken blockade runner. In 1872 Mark Morgan leased the mill, and it became the first of the Morgan Mills. It was located here.
