Capt. Addison Harvey, born in June 1837 and killed on April 9, 1865, was remembered by the survivors of Harvey's Scouts along with comrades in arms who were killed in battle: Lieut. Thomas Land, Thomas Field, John Graham, James Renfro, John Kilgore, William Bates, James Tucker, John Morrow, John Catlett, and James Archibald. Their service was recalled in language contrasting the disbanded Gray and Blue and the peace that later reigned where troopers had drawn their sabres bright under Ad. Harvey's leadership. In 1894, surviving members of Harvey's Scouts honored their captain and fallen comrades to perpetuate their memory.
