Thomas Jefferson Elder High and Industrial School in Sandersville, Georgia, built in 1927–28 at 316 Hall Street, is a Rosenwald school and the surviving building of a once larger campus on a site tied to education since 1889. Noted for its intact H-shaped plan and original finishes, it stands as an authenticated Rosenwald Plan School created to expand public education for Black students in the South. Local public, city, and private contributions from Black and white residents helped fund it. Closely linked to educator Thomas Jefferson Elder, the school advanced manual arts, vocational training, teacher education, and interscholastic competition during segregation.
