Opened in Georgetown, Colorado, on October 9, 1875, the Hotel de Paris was created by French immigrant Louis Dupuy during the town’s silver boom and brought unusual luxury to a mining community. After Georgetown residents aided him following a mining injury, Dupuy built the hotel from a bakery and adjoining buildings, modeling it on a French inn. Known for fine French cuisine and modern comforts such as gaslight, radiant heat, and running water, it expanded repeatedly and attracted prominent guests. After Georgetown’s decline following the Panic of 1893 and Dupuy’s death in 1900, the property later became a museum, prized for its remarkably intact Victorian interiors and extensive original furnishings.
