Eldora House
History
1
Built on the homeland of Robert S. Nelson before 1895, Eldora House stood near the center of the Eldora community and over its 100-year life span survived at least six periods of occupation and numerous owners. Also known as the Home Place in Volusia County records, it remained a well-known landmark after the original village and its residents faded into history. In 1980 the National Park Service evaluated the house and judged it too costly to restore, and its loss inspired local citizens to work to save the State House, two hundred feet south of here.
