Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio, grew from fairgrounds purchased in 1852 and later used for the Franklin County Fair and Ohio State Fair before the land became a public park in 1886. The conservatory opened in 1895 with a Victorian glass Palm House inspired by the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, and that building remains its historic core. Over time it expanded into a major botanical and educational institution with more than 400 plant species, varied climate-themed environments, and notable art installations. Major growth followed AmeriFlora ’92, and later butterfly exhibitions and the Chihuly glass collection helped establish it as a leading cultural and horticultural destination.
