George P. Cossar State Park is a public recreation area on Enid Lake in Mississippi, about five miles northeast of Oakland. Opened in 1966 as Yocona Ridge State Park, it was renamed in 1979 for longtime state legislator George Payne Cossar Sr. The park centers on one of Mississippi’s major reservoirs, offering boating, waterskiing, fishing, campsites, cabins, picnic areas, a visitors center, a nature trail, and golf amenities. Enid Lake is also known as the place where the world-record crappie was caught in 1954. Nearby lands around the lake and in Holly Springs National Forest broaden the area’s appeal for outdoor recreation, including hunting.
