Cayton Guard Station, also known as Cayton Ranger Station, stands in the White River National Forest about eighteen miles south of Silt, Colorado, as a preserved example of early Forest Service administration in a remote setting. Built in 1910, the site includes a three-room log cabin that reflects the practical architecture used at isolated ranger stations. Its historical importance lies in its survival as part of the forest’s early administrative history. The station was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005, and the Cayton Ranger Station Foundation supports its preservation and maintenance.
