This brick vault once stood in the depot of the Wellington and Powellsville Railroad, which ran between Windsor and Ahoskie in the early to mid-1900s carrying produce and passengers. A hill on the route often gave the train trouble, and passengers sometimes had to jump out and help push the cars to the top, leading people to jokingly call the W and P the “Walk and Push.” The vault was the only part left standing after the depot was demolished several years ago.
