Centerville School was erected in 1894 by C.H. Hintz and was used continuously for school purposes until 1966, when unification led to pupils being bussed into Chico. Its first teacher was Miss Ada Woods. The building cost $600. It was purchased by the Centerville Recreation and Historical Association Inc. on October 9, 1968, and was dedicated in memory of Cora Woods Hintz, a former teacher, on May 3, 1970, by Annie E. Bidwell Parlor No. 108 Native Daughters of the Golden West.
