The FB-111A served as Strategic Air Command’s premier penetrating bomber through the last 20 years of the Cold War and, with the people of the 380th Bombardment Wing who flew, maintained, and supported it, contributed to America’s nuclear deterrence mission as part of the strategic triad. Its supersonic speed, accuracy, and true all-weather characteristics gave it exceptional combat capability and helped bring Plattsburgh a record-setting five Fairchild Trophies in SAC’s Bombing and Navigation Competition. This aircraft, number 68-286, model number 58, was dedicated on the Third of December, 1991, to the citizens of the North Country and the men and women who served with the FB-111A.
