Elliot Cemetery
History
1
Originally known as Hawks Corner, the town was renamed Elliot in honor of pioneer rancher J. Elliot in 1863 when a post office was established. By the 1890s Elliot boasted a Methodist church, an Odd Fellows hall, two blacksmiths, two saloons, a machine shop, a veterinary surgeon, butcher shop, wagon wright, a flour mill, boarding house, a mercantile store and a general store. By 1902 there was only one store remaining and the schoolhouse. Today the cemetery is all that remains of the town of Elliot and the final resting place of these pioneer families.
