Serving under Gen. Andrew Jackson as a captain in the War of 1812, Thomas Kennedy Gordon became a lifelong friend of Jackson during the Creek War when, as others threatened to leave, he told him, "General I'll stay, will die with you." A pioneer settler of Brick Church, he later attained the rank of colonel in the Tennessee Militia and served as a member of the 18th and 21st Tennessee General Assemblies.
