Big Gum Swamp Wilderness is a protected area in northern Florida within Osceola National Forest, northeast of Lake City. Encompassing 13,660 acres of swamp and forest, it preserves a large wetland landscape inside the national forest. Established on September 28, 1984, the wilderness was formally set aside as a refuge, giving lasting protection to this part of the region’s environment.
