Delta II flew 52 science and exploration missions, 57 national security missions, and 46 commercial missions. It stood 128 feet tall and 8 feet in diameter. Its first stage used rocket propellant RP-1, or kerosene, and liquid oxygen, while its upper stage used hydrazine, Aerozine-50, and nitrogen tetroxide. Its liftoff thrust was 1,084,200 pounds. The shark's teeth on the payload fairing signaled the launch of a Global Positioning System satellite for the U.S. Air Force. Over nearly 30 years of service, Delta II rockets launched the first 48 operational GPS satellites.
