Built in 1936 as part of a federally funded effort to rebuild the fairground, this impressive octagonal community building was designed by WPA engineer C. D. Paxton and supervised by master log craftsman Tosten Stenberg of WPA headquarters in Livingston. Its primary construction material is lodgepole pine, chosen for its uniformity and harvested at nearby Ramshorn Creek. The logs are bias-cut and saddle-notched, and poles radiating from a central lantern form the interior rafters and create a floor space one hundred feet in diameter. In addition to serving as the main hall during fair time, the Pavilion has long hosted hundreds of local events, including dances, wedding receptions, family reunions, church functions, political rallies, flea markets, organizational Christmas parties, and winter roller skating, helping perpetuate the community spirit that built this Madison County treasure.
