Sixteen service members died when their U.S. Marine Corps KC-130T was lost in Leflore County, Mississippi, on July 10, 2017. The Marines and Sailor were from Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 452 (VMGR-452), based at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York, and the 2nd Raider Battalion based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. They were remembered as husbands, fathers, brothers, sons, friends, and patriots who served their country with honor: Major Caine M. Goyette, Captain Sean E. Elliott, Gunnery Sergeant Mark A. Hopkins, Gunnery Sergeant Brendan C. Johnson, Staff Sergeant Robert A. Cox, Staff Sergeant William J. Kundrat, Petty Officer 1st Class Ryan M. Lohrey, Staff Sergeant Joshua M. Snowden, Sergeant Chad E. Jenson, Julian M. Kevianne, Sergeant Talon R. Leach, Sergeant Owen J. Lennon, Sergeant Joseph J. Murray, Sergeant Dietrich A. Schmieman, Corporal Daniel I. Baldassare, and Corporal Collin J. Schaaff.
