Frenchman Solomon DeRossett built a log house on this site in 1799 and collected fur pelts for Napoleon Bonaparate’s army. The Levisa River served as the first conduit for travel and the means of importing frontier supplies. During spring rains, huge log rafts floated to markets downriver. Push boats and steam wheelers plowed the waters until 1933. Prestonburg’s first two river docks were the Landings and Town Branch.
