Bellefontaine Conservation Area is a 133-acre protected area in Castle Point, Missouri, along Interstate 270 in St. Louis County. Managed chiefly as grassland with sections of forest, it also includes ponds open to fishing. The property had belonged to the Missouri Department of Mental Health before its transfer to the Missouri Department of Conservation in 1995. That transfer reflected the land’s special importance for urban fishing, which continues to define the area’s role within this suburban part of greater St. Louis.
