The 77th New York Infantry, also known as the Bemus Heights Battalion, served in the 3d Brigade, 2d Division, 6th Corps. It was mustered in at Saratoga Springs on Nov. 23, 1861, and mustered out on June 27, 1865. Recruited in the counties of Saratoga, Essex, and Fulton, it participated in the campaigns of the Army of the Potomac, at Fort Stevens in Washington D.C., and in Sheridan's campaign of the Shenandoah Valley.
